Balenciaga Glasses: Reinvented Classics

From the runways of Paris to the streets of New York, Balenciaga’s spring 2013 ready-to-wear collection is making heads turn.

Nicolas Ghesquière, Balenciaga’s head designer, proved his mastery of reinventing classic designs throughout this collection by including “a string of references that prove it was every inch as thoroughly researched as his more conceptual outings: the mythology of antiquity, stiff ruffles from a Cristobal dress circa 1968, a nymph and faun window display that Janine Janet made for the store’s windows in ’57.”

Nicole Phelps of notes, “what gripped you was the cut — the way Ghesquière merged things that were quite graphic with movement.”

With the spring collection uniquely combining graphic textured prints with crisp tailored pieces, it’s interesting to see how these design elements have clearly influenced the latest Balenciaga glasses collection.
