Frank Ocean: Video Music Awards

The annual MTV Video Music Awards aired last night and the buzz today is around the amazing performance by Frank Ocean. Capturing the crowd with a simple, no gimmicks performance of “Thinkin’ Bout You”, MTV News praised the act claiming  “ there were no frills and thrills with the performance, just Ocean’s soaring vocals and an intensity that seemed to shut out everything around him”.

Frank Ocean has been a ghost writer for Beyonce Knowles, John Legend and Justin Bieber and is a member of the underground rap group Odd Future. His debut album Nostalgia, Ultra gained Frank recognition with his songs “Swim Good” and “Novacane”. Frank’s songwriting skills have been noted to be “smart, and subtle…setting him apart from the pack” by NPR’s Andrew Noz. Frank Ocean has worked with Jay-Z and Kanye West on their Watch the Throne album. You can hear his amazing voice on the tracks “No Church In The Wild” and “Made in America”.

With the recent release of Channel Orange, his first full-length album, Frank’s name has become more renown and has led to a much bigger audience including being the season opener for Saturday Night Live and an invitation to be a performer at last night’s VMA’s.

Not only is Frank Ocean a fantastic singer but his fashion sense is unique in the hip hop world which has caught the attention of the fashion industry. GQ has given him praise for his “modern bohemian style” which you can see when he wears his signature bandana and his accessorizing with different eyeglasses styles and shapes. Shannon, contributor to The Look, has picked her favourite pictures of Frank showing his unique eyeglasses style.
