With its first season winning two Golden Globes (Lena Dunham for lead actress and Girls for Best TV Comedy) Lena Dunham’s Girls has officially taken centre stage. From fashion to culture to the everyday eccentricities that New York city has to offer, Girls tells the story of four young girlfriends, Hannah Horvath, Marnie Michaels, Jessa Johansson and Shoshanna Shapiro.
With the much anticipated second season only one episode in, our editors couldn’t help but dream up a unique glasses style for each of these four fashion-loving characters.
CLASSIC: Marnie Michaels
Marnie Michaels began the first season of Girls as Hannah’s best friend and roommate. Through combining her love for the arts and fashion, Marnie’s style can be described as classic and sophisticated.
The classic lines of the Derek Cardigan 7021 Wood glasses, along with their unique colon and semi-colon detailing on the temples, reflect Marnie’s brainy personality and streamlined style.

DARING: Jessa Johansson
The free-spirited nature of Jessa Johansson is reflected in her bold fashion choices and audacious personality. With a love for boho-chic style, Jessa seamlessly pairs retro pieces with a modern flare.
The vibrant colour of the Rough Justice Material Gurl Pomegranate glasses and oversized shape are the perfect match for Jessa’s eclectic fashion choices.

VINTAGE: Hannah Horvath
Hannah Horvath, played by Lena Dunham, is a natural extension of the Girls creator herself. Whether it’s dealing with financial woes or emotional turmoil, Hannah’s daily struggles are apparent from episode one. Another facet of Hannah’s character that’s clear from the first episode is her love for vintage clothing.
The vintage-inspired clubmaster design of the Derek Cardigan 7011 Brown Tortoiseshell glasses pair perfectly with Hannah’s retro flare.

PREPPY: Shoshanna Shapiro
Shoshanna Shapiro, the most conservative of the group, channels a preppy vibe with her cute pleated skirts and modest dresses. Jennifer Rogien, Girls costume designer, describes how Shoshanna’s style is evolving, “We talked about how do we maybe grow her up a little bit to reflect where she is in her life, so we tweaked her color palette…and added a heel here and there”.
The preppy cat eye style of the Vera Wang Luxe Romance Black glasses, along with their cute jeweled temples, are the ideal accessory for Shoshanna’s budding character.
