Meet Caroline | Style Ambassador

Caroline is continuously on the hunt for the hottest trends and accessories of the season for her clothing boutique, Sylvie and Shimmy in Toronto. Her Derek Cardigan frames are often the subject of the compliments she receives due to the math symbols found on the temples; a multiplication and division sign. Caroline states that she applied to be a style ambassador because, “I’ve always been really happy with the service Clearly has provided and have strongly recommended using them to my friends. I was ecstatic once I understood what the program entailed and applied!”

Meet Caroline | Style Ambassador

Name & Nickname: Caroline Sylvester | Sylvie

Home base: Toronto, Canada

Current occupation: Boutique owner of Sylvie and Shimmy, a women’s clothing store in Toronto.

My glasses collection consists of ___ pairs of frames: 14 pairs of frames, 13 of which I ordered from Clearly!

Glasses are an amazing accessory because: Not only do they give the gift of sight, they can transform an outfit.

I chose this pair of glasses for my style ambassador starter kit because I wanted a cat eye frame. Almost every frame I have ordered from Clearly has been a square or round shape by Derek Cardigan. I wanted to try a different brand and shape.

A tip on picking out the perfect pair of frames is: Understand which style of frames suits your face shape. One of the first pair of glasses I ordered off Clearly were the Derek Cardigan 7004, I really like the large size of the frame. When re-ordering glasses online I would measure the size of the new lenses I was considering against the size of my Derek Cardigan 7004 – that way I would be able to tell if they are similar in size, larger or smaller.

I would describe my personal style as: Chameleon-esque. I guess it just depends on my mood. Sometimes I like to dress in vintage, sometimes feminine and girly, sometimes I just want to fit in and dress hipster, some days I’m just not feeling it and dress like a tom boy.

My favourite online source for style inspiration is Pinterest. I love to use it for décor and window display inspiration for the boutique.

The best way to organize a closet is: To first purge the items you no longer wear hand them down to your friends and family or give them to a local charity. I would then organize the clothing by seasons. Put away which ever garments are not season appropriate in a separate closet. Then organize the clothing into categories such as tees, blouses, everyday dresses, pants, skirts, formal wear etc. If you’re really organized you can then organize the categories by colors.

Buying the same piece of clothing in multiple colors, yay or nay? Yay, if you love it why not have a rainbow?

My favourite fashion trend of the moment is nail art. I love to paint designs on my nails that match the patterns and colours of my clothing.

Favourite city to go shopping is: Reykjavik, Iceland. Iceland is like no other place I have ever traveled to. I love the locals sense of style. There are some really great vintage shops as well.

If I could be stuck in an elevator with anyone, it would be: That is one of my fears! I think I’d need somebody who could provide some comic relief so that I don’t sit there and worry the whole time. Aziz Ansari would be the perfect funny man for the job.

A social media platform or app that I can’t get enough of is: Instagram, check us out @sylvieandshimmy.

My current style muse is: Clemence Posey

My favourite fashion blogger is: I love to follow Coury Combs over on – she has a great sense of style and I love how she will often mix vintage fabrics and patterns with new contemporary pieces. I also love to follow Kristina Bazan at – she always looks so elegant. I love how she can throw on trousers and a basic tee but will pair it with beautiful jewelry and an ordinary outfit becomes something of envy.

Some favourite boutiques in my area are: Sylvie and Shimmy, I spend almost every day in the shop and I don’t have time to shop at other stores!
