With the launch of the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) today the excitement is building for this year’s crop of films with the expectation that many will fill this year’s awards season. We’ve been inspired by the costumes and settings of some of the most anticipated movies to open at TIFF, ranging from 19th Century Russia to the distant future. Based on those themes we have picked some of our favourite eyewear styles based on the looks in some of the most eagerly awaited flicks.

Joe Wright’s latest take on Anna Karenina, starring Keira Knightley and Jude Law, has been called “the single most beautiful movie that I have seen this year” by film critic Richard Crouse. Set in tsarist Russia exquisite costumes are complimented with fine jewellery and ornately detailed hats.

On the Road, the film adaption of Jack Kerouac’s novel by the same name is considered the defining work of the Beat Generation in the 1950’s. The promotional posters feature Viggo Mortensen as Old Bull Lee wearing browline style glasses and Tom Sturridge as Carlo Marx wearing a round frame with a keyhole bridge. Kristen Stewart, Amy Adams, Kirsten Dunst and Garret Hedlund round up the young cast that is sure to highlight the enduring appeal of fashion from the mid-20th Century.

Departing into fantasy, Cloud Atlas premiers at TIFF and moves in time from 1850 to the far future. The futuristic theme was featured in a number of September 2012’s editions, including Vogue’s Space Odyssey editorial with Karen Elson wearing some of the season’s sleekest and most forward thinking styles.
