{"id":13933,"date":"2014-10-02T20:41:24","date_gmt":"2014-10-02T20:41:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.clearly.ca\/thelook\/?p=13933"},"modified":"2014-10-23T21:19:42","modified_gmt":"2014-10-23T21:19:42","slug":"world-sight-day-who-blinked-first","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.clearly.ca\/thelook\/world-sight-day-who-blinked-first\/","title":{"rendered":"World Sight Day | #WHOBLINKEDFIRST"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This World Sight Day, on October 9th, we are continuing commitment to restore vision and promote eye health to those in need.\u00a0To raise awareness for World Sight Day, we are hosting the world&#8217;s largest Staring Contest, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.clearly.ca\/worldsightday\"><strong>#WHOBLINKEDFIRST<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>To participate, share a video of your staring contest, use the hashtag #WHOBLINKEDFIRST, \u00a0and we will donate either a pair of prescription eyeglasses, Vitamin A Tablets, or protective sunglasses; each donation is based on a person&#8217;s individual need.<\/p>\n<p>Through our Change the View project, we have helped over 340,000 people worldwide by providing prescription eyeglasses to restore vision, sunglasses to protect from sight deteriorating UV Rays, and Vitamin A tablets to prevent the early onset of eye disease in children.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.clearly.ca\/worldsightday\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-13938\" alt=\"world-site-day-whoblinkedfirst-change-the-view\" src=\"https:\/\/www.clearly.ca\/thelook\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/world-site-day-whoblinkedfirst-change-the-view.jpg\" width=\"690\" height=\"693\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.clearly.ca\/thelook\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/world-site-day-whoblinkedfirst-change-the-view.jpg 690w, https:\/\/www.clearly.ca\/thelook\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/world-site-day-whoblinkedfirst-change-the-view-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.clearly.ca\/thelook\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/world-site-day-whoblinkedfirst-change-the-view-298x300.jpg 298w, https:\/\/www.clearly.ca\/thelook\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/world-site-day-whoblinkedfirst-change-the-view-600x602.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.clearly.ca\/thelook\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/world-site-day-whoblinkedfirst-change-the-view-577x580.jpg 577w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 690px) 100vw, 690px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Why Does This Matter?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) outlines the importance of global awareness for World Sight Day. 285 million people worldwide live with low vision and blindness, and of those 39 million people are blind and 246 million have moderate or sever visual impairment. 90% of blind people live in low-income countries. Of these,\u00a0<strong>80% of visual impairment is completely avoidable<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>ClearlyContacts.ca has been involved in initiatives locally, nationally and globally.
