Or it could be an indicator of a more serious health condition, such as glaucoma or macular degeneration,\u201d Dr. Asgarpour says.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEarly identification is the best way to prevent lasting damage \u2013 so if you\u2019re having any vision issues, book an eye exam as soon as possible.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<h2 id=\"how-many-are-behind-on-their-eye-exams\"><strong>1 in 3 Canadians are overdue for an eye exam<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-24215\" src=\"https:\/\/www.clearly.ca\/thelook\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/prepare-child-eye-exam.jpg\" alt=\"Eye exam for Children\" width=\"1600\" height=\"1067\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.clearly.ca\/thelook\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/prepare-child-eye-exam.jpg 1600w, https:\/\/www.clearly.ca\/thelook\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/prepare-child-eye-exam-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.clearly.ca\/thelook\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/prepare-child-eye-exam-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.clearly.ca\/thelook\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/prepare-child-eye-exam-600x400.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.clearly.ca\/thelook\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/prepare-child-eye-exam-296x197.jpg 296w, https:\/\/www.clearly.ca\/thelook\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/prepare-child-eye-exam-1050x700.jpg 1050w, https:\/\/www.clearly.ca\/thelook\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/prepare-child-eye-exam-870x580.jpg 870w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1600px) 100vw, 1600px\" \/><\/p>\n\n\n<p>Despite the fact that almost half of Canadians regularly experience vision issues (see above!), 34% are overdue for an eye exam.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Adults should get a comprehensive eye exam at least once every 24 months. Children need one every year.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Looking at the provincial breakdown of worst offenders, British Columbians are the most overdue \u2013 40% haven\u2019t had an eye exam in more than 2 years. Quebec comes in next (39% overdue), followed by Ontario (33% overdue), and Alberta (30% overdue).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So \u2013 when was your last eye exam? (If you have to think that hard, it\u2019s probably been too long\u2026).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Doc talk<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cRight now, 1 in 7 Canadians has an eye health condition that can lead to permanent vision loss. But 75% of vision loss is preventable as long as you keep up with your routine eye exams,\u201d Dr. Asgarpour says. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cConditions such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, or diabetic retinopathy can threaten your vision permanently. Symptoms tend to be minimal or nonexistent until the disease has progressed \u2013 which means early detection is key.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s not just about your eyes, either.
