Frequently Asked Questions

You can get a glasses prescription through an eye exam at your nearest Clearly store. The exam evaluates your vision and eye health, and once you have your prescription (valid for up to 2 years), you can use it to buy prescription glasses and sunglasses from our online or retail store. If you’ve had an eye exam in the past year, you can request a copy of your eye prescription from your optician.

Here’s how to read your glasses prescription:

  • OD and OS: Right and left eye respectively
  • Sphere (SPH): Power for nearsightedness (-) or farsightedness (+)
  • Pupillary distance (PD): Distance between the centre of your pupils
  • Cylinder (CYL) and Axis: Powers for astigmatism correction
  • Add: Magnifying power for reading, bifocal, multifocal and progressive lenses if you have presbyopia
  • Prism and Base: Correct eye alignment (please note: Clearly does not offer prism prescription glasses)

There are various types of lenses available for glasses, including:

  • Blue light lenses: Minimize exposure from harmful blue light and UV throughout the day, especially during long hours of digital screen time
  • Transitions® (photochromic lenses): Ideal for people who frequently move between indoors and outdoors and those who are light-sensitive, as they can adjust to changing light conditions
  • Progressives (a.k.a multifocal lenses): Helps people with presbyopia improve their vision at all distances (near, intermediate, and far)
  • Computer progressives: Helps those with presbyopia improve their near and intermediate vision during long hours of digital screen time, with a built-in BlueReflect™ coating
  • Reading (single vision lenses): Helps those with presbyopia improve their near vision only (not suitable for distance vision)
  • Bifocals: Offers near and far vision correction without intermediate vision for anyone with presbyopia

Here are some general tips for choosing glasses for your face shape:

Ultimately, it’s best to go with frames that you feel most comfortable and confident wearing.

The most important factor to consider is your level of comfort with the frame and you should be able to see clearly through the center of the lenses without any distortion.

  • Your glasses frames should rest comfortably on your nose bridge without slipping or feeling too tight.
  • The arms should fit snugly around your ears without putting too much pressure on them.

If you currently have a pair of glasses, the numbers on your frames can be used to find a pair that fits.

Check out for more tips on how to find your glasses size and frame measurements.

It depends on the severity of the damage. For minor issues like loose screws, nose pads replacement, or frame adjustment, we offer free service at our Clearly retail stores. If your frames or lenses are severely damaged, it may be time to get a new pair. Check out glasses starting at just $9 on our website.

Yes, glasses are commonly used to correct astigmatism. Nearsightedness, farsightedness, or presbyopia can be present along with astigmatism. If you have astigmatism, your glasses prescription will include numbers for Cylinder and Axis.
