    Frequently Asked Questions

As we have over 2,000 styles available, you can understand why we can’t carry our full online glasses selection in-store (we'd need a hockey stadium for that)! The glasses that we have on the shelves will vary, depending on availability. There are hundreds of styles you can see in person. You can also order any of our products that you see online while you’re in the store and we'll make sure it gets shipped to you quickly.

Same goes for contacts. We typically have the most popular brands available, so it’s always worth popping in to ask. If we don’t happen to have your contacts in-store, our team can order them in or arrange to have them shipped to your home.

The prices in-store are the same as the prices you see online. However, we often run promotions that are exclusive to the store, so you might notice different discounts when you're shopping in person. All promotions that you see online are also available in-store.

Routine eye exams aren’t covered by MSP for people between the ages of 19 and 64. Please visit the Government of British Columbia website for more information.

Clearly offers direct billing online and in-store.

Direct billing allows you to claim your vision insurance benefits upfront, so you can skip the paperwork and instantly save money on your eyewear. Whether you have workplace insurance, student coverage, or coverage through a partner or carer, you can use your benefits online and save money right away.

To claim your benefits online, all you need to do is enter your insurance information and upload your prescription. From there we'll process your claim and apply your coverage to your order total.

To claim your benefits in-store, please bring your insurance information and your prescription with you. Our team will help process your direct billing claim.

If your insurance provider isn't eligible for direct billing, or if you prefer to process your claim manually, you can submit a receipt directly to your provider (along with any other required paperwork). We'll send your reciept once your order has shipped.

Alberta Blue Cross members: We apologize for the inconvenience, but Alberta Blue Cross does not allow direct billing claims within our Alberta stores. However, you can still use direct billing when you shop for glasses and contacts online, or submit a claim after your store purchase. Here's how.

We currently take credit card and debit card payments. We are not accepting cash payments at this time.

Booking a store visit in advance gives you a guaranteed spot in the store. While you can still enter the store without an appointment, we highly recommend securing your place beforehand – we get a steady stream of eyewear-loving customers, and so you might have to wait in line if you haven’t booked your space. If you already have an eye exam booking, you don’t need to book a store visit.

During a comprehensive eye exam, our optometrists will test your vision by focusing on these aspects:

    • Refractive issues: nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia), astigmatism, or presbyopia
    • Overall perception: colour vision, depth perception, and eye coordination
    • Assessment of vision loss: “lazy eye” (amblyopia), glaucoma, diabetes, macular degeneration, cataracts, and keratoconus
    • Assessment of other health conditions: vascular diseases, neurological diseases, inflammatory diseases, and certain cancers

For the benefit of your eye health and overall health, a regular eye exam every one to two years can help detect early signs of vision or overall health issues that can be prevented.

A comprehensive eye exam is a complete assessment of your vision and eye health. You’ll need a contact lens exam if you want to wear contact lenses for the first time or if you need a new prescription.

It includes a contact lens fitting to ensure proper measurements for the best lens fit. If you’re considering a new glasses prescription, a comprehensive eye exam is sufficient. Learn about the differences between contact lens and glasses prescriptions.

An ophthalmologist is a medical doctor who provides eye surgeries. An optometrist, sometimes called an eye doctor, is your general practitioner for routine eye care: comprehensive eye exams and vision tests. They are your go-to to get a new eye prescription for glasses or contact lenses, and treatments for common eye conditions (dry eyes, glaucoma, and eye infections). You can also get pre- and post-eye surgery care from our local optometrists.

If you’re looking for a local optometrist in Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto, Ottawa or Mississauga, find a Clearly store near you and book an eye exam with us online.

An optometrist is your general practitioner for eye care who provides comprehensive eye exams and vision tests, eye prescriptions for glasses and contact lenses, and treatments for common eye conditions.

An optician is a technician who primarily dispenses glasses, sunglasses, and contact lenses according to the prescriptions provided by your optometrist or ophthalmologist. They also repair or adjust your eyewear to ensure a correct fit.

If you’re looking for a local optician or optometrist in Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto, Ottawa or Mississauga, find a store near you or book a store visit online.

Before your eye exam or routine eye checkup appointment with our optometrists, here are some tips to prepare for your visit. Please bring with you:

    • A list of any medications that you currently use
    • All pairs of glasses that you currently use
    • If you are a contact lens wearer, please wear your glasses to the appointment (if available), and bring your contact lens boxes/foils
    • Your provincial health card

No, we don’t currently offer re-lensing at Clearly. If it’s time for a new pair, please come in and talk to our experts about replacing your glasses with lenses that are the right fit for your lifestyle.

Bring your prescription into the store and pick out the frames you love. Our team will process your order right then and there. It will take about two weeks for your glasses to be made and shipped. If you’re picking them up in-store, we’ll give you a call when they’re ready.

We’ll also help with any adjustments or tweaks needed to make sure you get the perfect fit.

Almost everyone who needs vision correction for nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, or presbyopia can wear contact lenses. Since contact lenses are medical devices and they are available in different shapes, sizes, and materials, it’s best to visit your optometrist for contact lens options that will suit your eyes. Book an eye exam today for a valid contact lens prescription and initial contact lens fitting.

Based on your optometrist assessment if you have astigmatism, your eye doctor may prescribe contact lenses that are specifically designed for astigmatism (called toric lenses) to allow for more object focus. Without the correct shape and prescription power, regular contacts cannot correct blurry vision caused by astigmatism. Book an eye exam today for a valid contact lens prescription and initial contact lens fitting.
